A Middleware Support for Location-Based Service Discovery and Invocation in Disconnected MANETs
نویسندگان
چکیده
Disconnected MANETs show a changing topology and a fragmentation in distinct communication islands. In such networks, service discovery and invocation rely preferably on protocols that can support connectivity disruptions such as opportunistic protocols based on the store, carry, and forward principle. In this paper we present a middleware platform for geolocated services in disconnected MANETs. We detail in particular the location methods we used, the facilities for service discovery, selection, and invocation, and the undelying opportunistic communication protocol. Lastly, simulation results show the advantage of geolocation for service provision in such networks. OLFServ: an Opportunistic and Location-Aware Forwarding Protocol for Service Delivery in Disconnected MANETs
Handheld devices equipped with Wi-Fi interfaces are widespread nowadays. These devices can form disconnected mobile ad hoc networks (DMANETs) spontaneously. These networks may allow service providers, such as local authorities, to deliver new kinds of services in a wide area (e.g. a city) without resorting to the infrastructure-based networks of mobile phone operators. This paper presents OLFSe...
متن کاملInteroperating with Services in a Mobile Environment
Mobile computing is characterised by users carrying portable devices that allow communication between people and continuous access to networked services independent of their physical location. A mobile application must discover and interoperate with the required application services available to them in their present location. However, these services will be developed upon a range of middleware...
متن کاملA Message Service for Opportunistic Computing in Disconnected MANETs
Disconnected mobile ad hoc networks (or D-MANETs) are partially or intermittently connected wireless networks in which instant end-to-end connectivity between any pair of mobile hosts is never guaranteed. Recent advances in delay/disruption-tolerant networking make it possible to support communication in such conditions, but designing and implementing distributed applications for D-MANETs is st...

متن کاملTowards an Opportunistic and Location-Aware Service Provision in Disconnected Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
Opportunistic networking has recently appeared as a promising method to support communication in disconnected mobile ad hoc networks. This new communication model relies on the “store, carry and forward” principle, and exploits ad hoc communication and device mobility in order to achieve a networkwide message dissemination. It allows nomadic people to communicate together without resorting to i...
